![]() ![]() ![]() Johnson and Karen Seel, the city commissioners at the time the fountain and roundabout were approved by them in great haste. That cost should be billed in equal amounts to: Charlie Siemon, the city's development consultant Mike Roberto, former city manager and former Mayor Rita Garvey and Bob Clark, Ed Hooper, J.B. Proceed at once to demolish the fountain, that abominable monument to someone's ego.Īlso, redesign, reconstruct or do whatever is necessary to the roundabout to make it function efficiently and safely, but with two caveats: (1) Have the work done by people who know what they are doing, because the original crew did not (2) Do not bill Clearwater's taxpayers for the multimillion-dollar cost of redoing the roundabout and removing the fountain. I wish we could just have things the way they used to be.Īh, the fountain and the roundabout! Yes. This attitude must be hard on beach businesses, especially during slow tourist seasons. After hearing horror stories, even from my grandson, I decided it wasn't worth getting my car wrecked. I am one of the many senior citizens who no longer go to Clearwater Beach because of the roundabout. The present arrangement is simply too confusing and the lanes too narrow, especially for first-time visitors from out of state to try to figure out which lane they should try to get into for a certain exit, while their wipers are attempting to clean off the fountain spray. Since we seem to be stuck with a circular pattern here, I would suggest that the huge, visually impairing fountain that creates dangerous blind areas be totally demolished to provide more space for wider lanes to handle traffic. What a travesty that so much taxpayer money has already been spent to design, review and demolish buildings only to create such an impractical traffic structure for the great numbers of vehicles passing through daily. ![]()
